Other NoteKing George III was born on 4 June 1738 in London, the eldest son of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. He became heir to the throne in 1751 upon his father's death, succeeding his grandfather George II in 1760 in the midst of the Seven Years' War. On 8 September 1761, he married Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. He is best remembered for losing the American colonies, and in 1810, he became permanently deranged. On 29 January 1820, George III died at Windsor Castle.
