Other NotePrecise date of birth unknown, but Bury matriculated from Exeter College in 1639 at age 15. He earned a B.A. (1642) and M.A. (1645) from Exeter, and he was a fellow there from 1643 until 1648, when he was deprived, and again after the Restoration. He earned the degrees B.D. and D.D. in 1666. Rector of Exeter College (1666-1689), or Duloe, Cornwall (1648), of Puckington, Somerset (1649), and of Kidlington, Oxfordshire (1685). Canon of Exeter (1661). In 1695, he was deprived following a lengthy controversy over his publication of The Naked Gospel (1690), which criticized the doctrine of the Trinity. Vicar of Bampton, Oxfordshire from 1671 until he resigned in 1707, the only position he retained after his deprivation.
