DescriptionThe full title of the sermon is: ‘Gods loue, in Christ. A sermon declaring the mercy of the father, in sending; and of the sonne, in dying for the redemption of mankind, beyng drowned in sinne.’ The sermon begins as follows: ‘Wee may wishe, but in vayne, as Ambrose doth wishe, in regard of that misery whiche belongeth to mortall men, that eyther Adam had bene deafe, or Eve had bene dumme, when that great tentation was preferred by the one, and accepted by the other; so closely ever after hath that curse sate on man, whiche our parents originall did plucke on themselves, and by lineall discent, did send downe unto theirs, not to one, but to all, as an hæreditary disease, a canker to the body, a poyson to the soule, an apparannt and undoubted destruction to both.’
