Other NoteBorn 12 November 1626 at Shotwick, Cheshire to Samuel Clarke, cleric, and his wife Katherine Overton. Matriculated from New Inn Hall, Oxford in 1641 and was admitted to Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1644 where he received his BA and was made fellow of Pembroke College that same year. Ordained in 1649 and became vicar of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire in 1653 after losing his Pembroke fellowship in 1651 for refusing to to take the engagement of loyalty to the new Commonwealth. He married Sarah Lancaster there in 1655, with whom he had five daughters and one son. Rector of Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire from 1657 to his ejection in 1662. By 1665, he had relocated to Upper Winchendon, Buckinghamshire where he led a congregation in the house of Philip, Lord Wharton. During this time he also achieved some renown for his work of scriptural exegesis, publishing an annotated Bible in 1690 among other works. Died at High Wycombe, 24 February 1701.
