Other NoteSimon Matthew was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, c. 1493. He was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He graduated B.A. in 1517/18, and became a fellow in 1516. He subsequently proceeded M.A. in 1521 and B.D. in 1529. On 14 December 1529, he was presented to the vicarage of Prescot in Lancashire, which he held until his death. In 1532, Matthew became vicar of Tollesbury in Essex and rector of St Mary Woolchurch in the City of London shortly after. He preached regularly at Paul's Cross, and published A Sermon Made in the Cathedrall churche of Saynt Paule at London (London: Thomas Berthelet, 1535). He delivered sermons in support of the Royal Supremacy, and served as King's Chaplain in the latter half of the 1530s. Matthew died in 1541.
