Other NoteJohn Howson was born in London, c. 1556. He studied at St. Paul's School, London, and Christ Church, University of Oxford, graduating B.A. on 12 November 1578 and proceeding M.A. on 3 March 1582. He was licensed to preach on 23 July 1597, and subsequently became vicar of Bampton and chaplain to Elizabeth I on 7 July 1598. In 1601, he was awarded the degrees of B.D. and D.D. Howson was appointed bishop of Oxford in 1618, and became bishop of Durham ten years later. He died on 6 February 1632, and was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
