Other NoteJohn Bowle was born in Lancashire. His date of birth is unknown. Bowle was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge, matriculating at the latter in 1594. He graduated B.A. in 1598 and proceeded M.A. in 1601. He was also awarded the degree of B.D. in 1608. From 1 March of that year, he was Rector of St Michael-le-Querne, London. He had left this post by 2 April 1619. On 1 June 1609, he also held the rectory of Upminster, Essex. Bowle was awarded the degree of D.D. in 1613. In that year, he had also become Rector of Bradfield and Tilehurst, both in Berkshire. Bowle's publications included two sermons, one of which was preached at the funeral of Sir Henry Grey, Earl of Kent. In 1620, he became Dean of Salisbury; ten years later, he became Bishop of Rochester. He held this position until his death in London on 9 October 1637. John Bowle was buried in St Paul's Cathedral.
