DescriptionThis is a peculiar artefact. On p. 113, Allestree writes his text from Jeremiah and introduces his sermon. On p. 114 he writes out the text from Deuteronomy with the following instructions: "This simulary Text, wch is a kin to the former both in sense and words, may passe for an Introduction to a New Sermon, and is to be continued & piec'd to the following page (115?) at the Top: but this side is wholly to be omitted, when the Discourse commences from the prophet Jeremiah, XXI. 8." We are given rare insight here into Allestree's methods of sermon composition, especially of sermons connected to funerals and the subject of death.

Other NoteThe preaching occasions have been classified as funerals based on Allestree's comments in his manuscript on the uses to which the passages were put.
