Other NoteJohn Eglington Bailey was born at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 13 February 1840. Bailey was educated at Boteler's Grammar School, Warrington. He became interested in the figure of Thomas Fuller (1608-1661), delivering a lecture on him to the Manchester Phonographic Union, which was published in Henry Pitman's 'Popular Lecturer' (new ser., 9, 1864). Ten years later, he published a life of Fuller and was subsequently admitted into the Society of Antiquaries. Bailey became honorary secretary to the Chetham Society, Manchester. He died in Stockport, Cheshire on 23 August 1888, and was buried at Stretford Church four days later.
