Other NoteThe exact birth date of Josias Howe is unknown. He was baptised on 29 March 1612, the son of Thomas Howe, rector of Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford at the age of nineteen. He graduated B.A. on 18 June 1634, proceeding M.A. on 21 February 1637. Subsequently, he was a fellow of the College from 1637 until 1648, removed from his post by Parliamentary visitors. Only thirty copies of his sole published work were printed. This was a bespoke publication printed in red ink, comprising a sermon originally delivered before King Charles I at Christ Church, Oxford in 1644. Howe was awarded the degree of B.D. on 10 July 1646. He was restored to his fellowship in 1660, and held it until his death on 28 August 1701. Howe was buried the following month at the chapel of Trinity College, Oxford.
