Other NoteBorn in Grimley, Worcestershire on 18 November 1641, Hooper was briefly educated at St Paul's School, London, before becoming king's scholar at Westminster School. He entered Christ Church, Oxford in 1657. BA, 1660; MA, 1663; BD, 1673; DD, 1677. Ordained deacon in 1666, and priest in 1668 in the diocese of Oxford. Became chaplain to George Murley, Bishop of Winchester and rector of Havant, Hampshire in 1670. Vacated to East Woodhay, Hampshire in 1672. Remained there until 1691. In 1673, he became chaplain to Archbishop Sheldon, an appointment which greatly accelerated his career. Rector of St Mary, Lambeth, 1675-1703, precentor of Exeter Cathedral in 1677; almoner to Princess Mary in 1678; chaplain to the King in 1681. In 1679, he married Abigail Guilford, of Lambeth. Subsequently held appointments as prolocutor of the Lower House of Convocation; Chaplain-in-ordinary to William; dean of Canterbury. In 1703 he became Bishop of St. Asaph before translation to Bath & Wells later that year. He died in Berkeley, Gloucestershire on 6 September 1727.
