Other NoteThe exact date of birth of Andrew Perne is unknown. Born c. 1519, Perne graduated B.A. from St John's College, Cambridge in 1539, proceeding M.A. in 1540. He was elected Fellow of St John's College in the same year; however, he migrated to Queens', Cambridge shortly afterwards. Perne was awarded the degree of B.D. in 1547. In 1549, he was instituted to the rectory of Walpole St Peter, Norfolk; a year later, he acquired the living of Pulham, Norfolk. Throughout the 1550s, he served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. It was also during the 1550s that he gained a number of livings in Cambridgeshire; he was to hold the rectory of Somersham for the rest of his life. He became a prebendary of Westminster in 1552, and dean of Ely in 1557. Andrew Perne died on 26 April 1589, and was buried in the parish church of Lambeth, Surrey. His large library is principally held at Peterhouse, Cambridge.
