Contents NoteA notebook used consecutively by four owners over the course of the seventeenth century. Contains notes primarily on sermons preached in Oxford from 1625-1628 (ff. 12r-25r, 69r-71r [written in reverse]) and some other notes in the same hand (ff. 1-11, 72-77); notes in another hand (ff. 25v-28, 52v-66v [written in reverse]) from around 1636, including a treatise on Catholicism (ff. 25v-26v); notes in a third hand including a list of people removed from Oxford by the Parliamentary Visitors in 1648 (ff. 46v-51v [written in reverse]); and notes in a fourth hand from around 1697-1698 (ff. 4v, 27, 29v-33v, 52v). The cataloguer notes that this fourth set consists mostly of notes a funeral sermon, but there is no text or any other clear indication that this is the case. Verse copied throughout the volume.

ProvenanceTwo seventeenth-century owners were Thomas Young and Edward Betham. Which of the numerous Thomas Youngs, and at least two Edward Bethams, who attended Oxford in the seventeenth century owned this volume is uncertain (see AO [Foster]). The volume was purchased from George’s of Oxford by W. D. Macray in 1899.
