Contents NoteThe volume contains sermons and memoranda in English in the hand of Griffith Evans preached at Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (1693-1695) and Tremerchion (1695-1737). A few items of poetry by Francis Quarles are also included. On f. 2r-v are listed dates for the years 1705-1708 and 1714-1715 (new style). These may indicate days, especially Sundays, on which Evans preached, but the dates are not attached to any particular sermon. In 1705, for example, 24 dates are listed, averaging between 2 and 4 per month, with none in the months of June and July. Lists of dates for 1719-1726 are found on f. 31r-v. Lists of dates for 1727-1733 are found on f. 57v. where it is clear that the number of sermons per year has declined. Lists of dates for 1709-1713 are found on ff. 119v-120r. On ff. 120r-121v are "laid down all the notes I writt: as well the sticht & Bound. as well those preacht already in Temerchion: as not." This is dated February 12, 1696/7. In columns on these pages are biblical texts on which Evans has already preached, columns of things "writt and unpreacht," There is also a curious list of years (1716-1728) beside which is written "within these years the Appearances were seen in the Air." On the final folio of this list is written "Those set down on or in the 4 preceding columns are all tolerable good. Those following in this Page are Ordinary ones. Some Sticht & some Bound." Preceding the sermons is a prayer that may have been a standard prayer before sermons used by Evans (ff. 3r-7r). Following the sermons is a concluding prayer that may have been regularly used by Evans (ff. 113v-119v)
Material FeaturesThe author's hand is clear and large. Some of the pages at the front and back of the manuscript are torn, and the leather binding is worn and scarred.
