TitleCourse of Sermons on the Church Catechism [Vol. 1]
ShelfmarkMISC:509/1
Creation Dateca. 1670 -
Contents NoteSixteen sermons on the church catechism, written in one hand. An incomplete part of a series. The texts are Luke 6:10-12. Double-page spread at the beginning with a contemporary index, titled "Lib. 12th". A note explains, “in this book is contained a course of sermon s upon the Church Catechism begun & presented[?] in 11 Octavo books.” Fair copy. Foliation is presumably continuous between these different octavo books as it begins at 3811. In the index the start of the foliation for each sermon has been written in the same hand but a different pen, presumably later. There is a minor error in foliation in the first sermon. The sermons are indexed as the "2nd petition", "3rd petition" and "4th petition". Throughout the volume, the particular terms of the verse addressed in a specific part of the sermon are indicated with brackets. These appear in the header to each page and in the body of sermon itself. Note on the index page reads, "written temp. Chas: II. c. 1670, see vol. 2nd".
Material FeaturesBound in velum with patterned end papers. The hand is clear and neat.
