TitleSermons and Materials for Sermons by H. Prichard
ShelfmarkMS. Rawl. A. 443
Creation Dateca. 1700 - 1707
RepositoryBodleian Library
Contents NoteThe manuscript contains sermons and materials for sermons written by H. Prichard at Newington Butts (1700-1701) and while curate at Clapham under Dr. Nicholas Brady (1705-1707). On six fly-leaves at the beginning are tables of the principle heads handled in the volume and the biblical texts handled by Dr. Brady and H. Prichard in Clapham (1705-1707). At the end of the manuscript is an index rerum occupying 10 leaves. The materials in this book are short essays, listed under “The Principall heads yt is handled in this 1st volume.” They are thematic discussions (perhaps definable as sermons, especially the ones that are dated), although they are not strictly exegetical (no Scriptural text is expounded as the prompt for these discussions although the texts chiefly emphasized are also listed in the front matter and paginated). These page numbers do not correspond to the page numbers at the beginnings of sermons and it would require some effort to bring the tables into correspondence with the contents of the volume
Material FeaturesPrichard's hand is not difficult to construe, but the volume is characterized by revisions, deletions, and insertions that suggest this manuscript is a working collection of materials for preaching compiled by Prichard.
