Contents NoteThis manuscript contains is a presentation copy of two sermons preached in 1646 and dedicated to Elizabeth, the widow of Sir Marmaduke Rawdon, governor of Faringdon, Berkshire. The first sermon (ff. 7r-27v) was preached at the funeral (c. 28 April 1646) of her husband, Marmaduke, at Faringdon, by his chaplain, Dr. John Jones. The second sermon (ff. 33v-55r) was preached by Thomas Hassall, vicar of Great Amwell at Hoddesdon chapel in memory of Martha Moulsworth, a widow, at Hoddesdon chapel, on 28 October 1646. Each sermon uncludes a dedication to Elizabeth, Lady Rawdon (ff. 5r-6r, 31r-32r).

AcquisitionSold by Philips of Nottingham on 29 December 1868 as part of lot 193, the Marquis of Hastings sale. Later sold by Sotheby's as lot 164 on 28 June 1965. Given to the Bodlaien by Theodore Hofmann in 1972 through the Friends of the Bodielan.
