Other NoteStudied at Caius College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1614, before proceeding MA in 1617, BD in 1623, and DD in 1630. He developed an anti-calvinist bent through his associations with men such as Richard Neile, the Bishop of Durham. He was one of the anti-calvinist Durham House group, and was an active controversialist. His connections with the Durham House group helped him gain positions as archdeacon of the East Riding of Yorkshire in 1625, master of Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1635, and royal chaplain-in-ordinary in 1636. Around 1644, he was appointed chaplain to Queen Henrietta Maria's court in Paris, where he stayed until the Restoration. After the Restoration, he was appointed Bishop of Durham.
