Other NoteThe exact birth date of Theophilus Aylmer (Elmer) is unknown. Born in Lincoln, he was the son of John Aylmer (1520/21-1594), Bishop of London. He matriculated at Queen's College, Cambridge, in the Lent term of 1582. Aylmer graduated B.A. in 1582/3 and proceeded M.A. in 1586. At the age of eighteen, he was ordained deacon in London; shortly after, he was presented to the prebend of St Paul's. Aylmer was instituted rector of Much Hadham, Hertfordshire in 1589. In 1591, he became archdeacon of London; a year later, he was presented with the rectory of St Leonard's, Shoreditch. Aylmer was awarded the degree of D.D. in 1598. He died in January 1625 and was buried at Much Hadham.
