Other NoteBorn 19 or 20 September 1645 in Bristol to Thomas Turner, dean of Canterbury, and Margaret Windebank, daughter of Sir Francis Windebank. Matriculated from Hart Hall, Oxford in 1662; BA from Corpus Christi College, 1666; MA, 1669; fellow of Corpus, 1672; BD, 1677; DD, 1683. He also held several ecclesiastical livings, from which he was frequently absent: vicar of Milton-next-Sittingbourne, Kent, 1672-1695; rector of Thorley, Hertfordshire, 1680-1689; rector of Fulham, Middlesex, 1688-1714; archdeacon of Essex, 1680; canon of Ely, 1686; canon and precentor of St Paul's Cathedral, London (1686?); and chaplain to James II. Elected president of Corpus in 1688 where he devoted most of his attention, remodeling the president's lodgings, donating his library, and earning the college a reputation as a Tory stronghold. (His brother Francis was a nonjuring bishop [GEMMS person 136]). Died at the college 29 April 1714.
