Biographical Sources ConsultedODNB # 18149. Dr. Thomas Marshall Chaplain to the Merchant Adventurers at Rotterdam and Dordrecht (1650-72), Rector of Lincoln College (1672), Dean of Gloucester (1681). In describing his collection, the Bodleian cataloguer notes that bequeathed 76 oriental and 63 western manuscripts to the Bodleian along with over 900 printed books reflecting his interests in linguistics and philology and his exile in the Netherlands during the Commonwealth. The cataloguer also notes the wide variety of his linguistic interests as indicated by the presence of rare languages such as Frisian, Irish and Romanian. Lincoln College, Oxford also received books from Marshall.
