Other NoteSon of Thomas Fairfax, Lord Fairfax of Cameron (1560-1640). Born in Otley, West Riding of Yorkshire on 5 March 1597. Studied at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1611. Admitted to Lincoln's Inn later in 1611 and called to the bar in 1618. Governor of Otley grammar school beginning in 1642. Fought for Parliament during the Civil Wars and was captured by the Royalists. Became a JP in 1645. Still in the army during the 1650s, he served in Scotland. Became military governor of Hull in 1660. Died in 1673 and was interred at Otley on 22 December.
