Other NoteWilliam Chidlow (alternatively Chidlowe, Childley, or Chudleigh) of London was born 7 November 1602, and may have attended Merchant Taylors’ School in his youth. He matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford in 1621 and graduated B.A. from All Souls’ College in 1625. He proceeded M.A. at Queen’s College 15 in 1628 and B.D. in 1636, receiving his license to preach that same year. Chidlow was recognized as chaplain of Corpus Christi College in 1649, and was made rector of St Clement’s (St. Bride’s), Oxford in 1630, of Cowley, co. Gloucester in 1652, and of Hampstead Marshall, Berks. in 1661.
