Other NoteOrdained at Inchinnan on 7 May 1691. Transferred to Greenock in 1694. In July 1701 appointed as Principal of the University of Glasgow, succeeding from his uncle, William Dunlop under the influence of the Rector Sir John Maxwell. He was the moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1707. His letters are held at the University of Glasgow's Special Collections.
