Other NoteThomas Bromley, mystical writer, was baptized on 1 February 1630 in the parish of St Michael Bedwardine, Worcester. He was admitted as a commoner of Oriel College, Oxford, in June 1650. He matriculated on 22 November of that year. By April 1652, he had transferred to All Souls College. While at Oxford, Bromley and a companion heard a sermon preached at the university church by John Pordage, rector of Bradfield, Berkshire. He subsequently joined Pordage's community at Bradfield in 1654. Pordage was ejected from his living in the same year, but Bromley continued to be associated with him throughout the 1650s and 1660s. Bromley is perhaps best known for his work entitled 'The Way to the Sabbath of Rest' (London, 1655), a mystical treatise which was later translated into Dutch, German, and Swedish. Bromley died in Upton upon Severn on Easter Monday, 13 April 1691, and was buried two days later.
