Other NoteBaptized 1 February 1623 at St Giles Cripplegate, London. Son of Stephen Monteage, a goldsmith from Buckingham. In his youth he apprenticed to the merchant James Houblon, but after the Restoration he became a steward to the second duke of Buckingham and agent to Christopher, Viscount Hatton. At some point before 1654, he married Jane Deane, with whom he had one daughter and two sons. After Jane's death at an unspecified date, he married a woman called Martha, with whom he had at least one daughter. He published two successful instructional texts on accounting, Debitor and Creditor Made Easie (1675) and Instructions for Rent-Gathers' Accompts...Made Easie (1683) based on his experience after 1664 as an accountant for scrivner bankers Robert Clayton and John Morris. His son Dean, and grandson Stephen Monteage (GEMMS Person 755), followed in his footsteps and were also accountants.
