Other NoteThe son of Abraham Carter of Lisle. He matriculated from Trinity College in April 1623, and gained his BA there in 1626/7 and MA in 1630. He became a fellow of the college in 1627 received his doctorate in 1661. He was (probably) ordained as a deacon at Durham on 19 September 1630 and issued a university license to preach on 19 February 1632. He was the vicar of Settrington, Yorkshire from 1641 to 1661, and sequestered in 1644, possibly being restored in 1662. Meanwhile, he held a post at Highgate, Middlesex and was then appointed as archdeacon of Chester in 1660. He married Frances Fuller, the daughter of William Fuller, the dean of Durham, and had a son, John. He was buried at Settrington on 1 March 1666/7.
