Other NoteBorn at Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire sometime in 1525. Likely matriculated from Christ's College, Cambridge in 1544, before entering Magdalen College, Oxford as a demy in 1547, becoming probationary fellow in 1548; BA, and perpetual fellow in 1549; MA, 1552; lecturer in moral philosophy, 1553. Maintained his fellowship at Magdalen despite 1553 Marian purge by travelling overseas, first to Zurich, and then enrolling at the University of Basel where he came into contact with John Bale and John Foxe. Returned to Oxford by 1560 becoming Regius professor of divinity in 1560 and President of Magdalen College in 1561, posts he held until his death in 1588. BD and DD, 1562. Vice-chancellor, 1571-6. Rector of Meanstoke, Hampshire, 1581; dean of Gloucester in 1571 and of Winchester in 1580. Died 1 February 1588.
