Other NoteBalthazar Gardemau, squarson, was born in Poitiers, France, in 1656. He was educated at the Protestant Academy at Saumur, came to England as a Huguenot refugee in 1682, and was presented with the living of Coddenham in 1690. He subsquently took the living of Ashbocking in 1692. He married Lady Catherine Bacon in the late 1690s, living at Shrubland Hall, Suffolk, until his death in 1739. His funeral wall monument can be found at St. Mary's Church, Coddenham. His library of Anglo-French books formed the basis of the parochial library at Coddenham, and is currently held at Suffolk Record Office, Ipswich.
