Other NoteSon of Robert Hickson, a clerk in Malton, North Riding of Yorkshire. He was educated at home before matriculating from St John's College, Cambridge at the age of 17 on 22 June 1667. He was ordained as a deacon in 1671 and as a priest in 1672 in York. He was incorporated at Oxford University in 1677. He was rector of All Saints' North Street, York from 1674 and St Cuthbert, York from 1679.
