Other NoteVavasor Powell was the son of Richard Howell, an alekeeper of Knucklas, Radnorshire. He may have attended Jesus College, Oxford, but the records there do not record his name. In 1644, he became vicar of Dartford, Kent, resigning this living in 1646. On 21 December 1653, he was arrested for his denunciation of Oliver Cromwell, only to be released three days later. At the Restoration of Charles II, he was arrested for his preaching, and was imprisoned until 1667. Powell was arrested again in 1668 for illegal preaching and died two years later at London's Fleet Prison on 27 October 1670. He was buried at Bunhill Fields.
