Other NoteThe exact birth date of Henry Goodere is unknown. He was the only son of Sir William Goodere. He was baptised on 21 August 1571. Goodere matriculated as a fellow-commoner of St John's College, Cambridge in Michaelmas 1587. He did not take a degree. He was admitted to the Middle Temple on 23 April 1589. On 5 August 1599, Goodere was knighted by Robert Devereux, Second Earl of Essex. He became a gentleman of the privy chamber in May 1603, and MP for West Looe in the same year. He is best remembered today for his friendship with John Donne, with whom he corresponded frequently, particularly in 1608-1613. Goodere died on 13 March 1627.
