Other NoteThe exact birth date of John Spenser is unknown. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, graduating B.A. on 29 October 1577 and proceeding M.A. on 16 March 1580/1. Spenser was also awarded the degree of B.D. on 21 March 1589/90. He was vicar of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire in 1592, and of Ardleigh, Essex from 1592 until 1594. Subsequently, he was vicar of Faversham, Kent from 1594 until 1599. Spenser was instituted to the vicarage of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate on 12 June 1599. On 20 April 1602, he was awarded the degree of D.D. Spenser became president of Corpus Christi College, Oxford on 9 June 1607. He died at the age of fifty-five on 3 April 1614, and was buried in his college chapel.
