Other NoteWilliam Homes was a Scottish-Irishman who emigrated to New England in 1686, moving from Ulster. He then taught school at Chilmark for three years, and then returned to Ireland in 1689 where he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He had many children, most surviving to majority, whose births and deaths are recorded at the beginning of his diary: Rober (b. 23 July 1694); Margaret (b. 28 Feb 1695/6); William (b. 24 March 1696/7) - d. 18 February 1699); Katherine (b. 20 March 16998/9); John (b. 30 July 1700); Jane (b. 30 August 1701); Agnes (b. 31 May 1704); Elizabeth (b. 15 September 1706); Hanna (31 Jan 1708/9); Margery (b. 23 January 1710/1 - d. 24 Febrauar 1705). He returned to America in 1714, and appointed as the first minister of the Congregational Church in Chilmark, where he would remain until he died in 1746. He had four of his sermons published.
