Other NoteBorn in Astbury, Cheshire, the son of William Moreton. He studied at Eton and was admitted to King's College Cambridge in 1619 at the age of 17. He graduated BA in 1622/3, and MA 1626. He was then a fellow from 1622-31 and was incorporated at Oxford in 1626, where he (possibly) received a doctorate in 1636. He was the vicar of Grinton from 1634-7, rector of Barrow from 1637-9, Tattenhall in 1637 and Sefton in 1639. He was ejected twice from Sefton and Tattenhall for malignancy against the parliament, and restored in 1660. He was made chaplain to the lord keeper and gained the prebendary of Chester in 1637. He was again ejected from this post but was later restored. He died 28 Feb., 1664. He is the father of William Moreton, bishop of Kildare (GEMMS person ID: 000252).
