Other NoteThe exact birth date of Richard Davies is unknown. He graduated M.A. from New Inn Hall, Oxford in 1530, proceeding B.D. on 28 June 1536. He served as rector of Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire in 1549 (presented by Edward VI), and was instituted to the neighbouring vicarage of Burnham in 1550. He was deprived by Mary I and restored by Elizabeth I, after a period of exile. Davies was elected to the see of St Asaph in 1560 and then of St David's in 1561. On 30 October 1566, he was awarded the degree of D.D. He served as bishop of St David's until his death on 7 November 1581; he was buried in the church of Abergwilly, near Carmarthen.
