Other NoteThe son of the printer John Gough (d.1543), John Gough (b. c.1521) was a scrivener before he was ordained as priest in 1560. Gough served as rector of St. Peter Cornhill in London. An outspoken non-conformist and preacher, Gough was one of 37 clergymen who in 1566 refused to acquiesce to Archbishop Parker's demand for unconditional conformity; Gough was consequently placed in the custody of the bishop of Winchester and deprived of his position. Gough had returned to London by 1569 and continued his radical preaching. Gough died in early 1572 (new) and was buried at St Bartholomew by the Exchange on February 1, survived by his wife Mary.
