Other NoteAlternatively Symon[s]. Several sermons in LPL Dep. Kettleworth Sermons (1672-89) were preached at the house of Dr. John Simons, "near Bandon," Co. Cork. There is a 1677 probate record for a John Symons of Co. Cork, whose place of residence was given as "Garranecooring." Although this word is clearly and distinctly written in the probate record, there is no recorded place with this name; it could it be the name of a house, a bastardization of Irish, or a a mis-transcription of the neighbouring townlands of Garanne and Coolacreasig (app. 35km away from Bandon). There is not enough evidence to definitively identify the John Symons of this probate record as Dr. John Simons in question.
