Other NoteLikely referring to John Bennet(t), son of Stephen Bennet, of St. Gerrans, Cornwall. Matriculated at Hart Hall, Oxford, 2 June, 1671, aged 20 ; graduated B.A. 23 January, 1674-5. The dates this John Bennet was a student at Hart Hall correspond with the "ex libris" inscription (1672). Although another John Bennet (student of Gray's Inn, 1655; son of Sir Humphrey, of Shaldon, Southants) did matriculate from Hart Hall, the date of his matriculation was 1656, two decades earlier than the date given in the "ex libris"; furthermore, there is no record of him graduating from Hart Hall, so it is unlikely that this Bennet would identify as "ex aula Cervina" two decades later without having completed his B.A..
