Other NoteJohn William Maclure was born in Manchester on 22 April 1835. He was the brother of Edward Craig Maclure (1833-1906), dean of Manchester. John William Maclure attended Manchester Grammar School. He served as honorary secretary to the committee of the Lancashire Cotton Relief Fund in the 1860s. A Conservative, he was elected MP for the Stretford division of Lancashire in 1886. Maclure was created a baronet on 1 January 1898. He retained his seat in Parliament until his death on 28 January 1901.
