Matriculated at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, on 31 March, 1696. Graduated BA 1699, and graduated MA 1702. Received BD 1709 and DD 1712 from Queen's College, Oxford. Ordained a deacon 1702, and ordained a priest 1704. Preached at various London churches from 1704-1708. May have briefly been a curate at Bottesford, Lincolnshire in 1708. Served at the English church in Amsterdam 1708-1709. Married Susanna about 1710 and had four sons and two daughters. Appointed to the rectory of Whitewell, Derbyshire, 1711-1736. Appointed as rector of Barwick in Elmet, Yorkshire, 1736-1740. Served as principal of St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, 1722-1740. Died 1 March, 1740.
