Other NoteThe exact date of birth of Ephraim Udall is not known. Baptised at Kingston upon Thames on 3 February 1587, he was the son of John Udall, preacher in that parish. He matriculated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge in Easter 1606, graduating B.A. in 1610 and proceeding M.A. in 1614. He became perpetual curate of Teddington in Middlesex in 1615, holding this post until 1626. From 1634 until 1643, he was instituted to the rectory of St Augustine's, Watling Street, London. He was sequestered from his rectory for publishing a controversial pamphlet entitled Noli me tangere (1642), which was critical of certain parliamentary plans to abolish tithes. Ephraim Udall died on 24 May 1647. Against his wishes, he was buried at St Michael-le-Querne, Paternoster Row, as opposed to the chancel of All Hallows, Honey Lane, Cheapside.
