Other NoteThomas Winniffe was baptised at Sherborne, Dorset, on 10 June 1576. He matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford, on 22 February 1594, aged eighteen. He graduated B.A. on 12 July 1598 and proceeded M.A. on 17 May 1601. From 1608, he was rector of Lambourne and Willingdale Doe, both in Essex. He was awarded the degrees of B.D. and D.D. in 1610 and 1619, respectively. He served as dean of Gloucester from 1624 and was installed prebend of Mora in St Paul's Cathedral in London in the same year; Donne was a fellow residentiary canon there. Winniffe succeeded Donne as dean of St Paul's on 18 April 1631. He ended his career as bishop of Lincoln, and died, unmarried, on 19 September 1654. Winniffe was buried at Lambourne a week later.
