Other NoteWilliam Whiston was born on 9 December 1667 in Leicestershire. He matriculated at Clare College, Cambridge in September 1686 and earned both his B.A. (1689) and M.A. (1693). He served as Deacon of Lichfield (1693), rector of Drayton, Norfolk (1697-1698), and vicar of Lowestoft, Suffolk, and Kessingland, Suffolk (1698-1703) before moving to academia. At Cambridge, he served as the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics (1702) and Boyle lecturer (1707) until he was expelled from the university in 1710 for his heretical publication on Arian, anti-trinitarian theology.
