Other NoteThe son of Joseph Drake, a yeoman of Penn-y-gant near settle. He was schooled at Wakefield and matriculated in 1676 at St John's Cambridge at the age of 16. He gained his BA in 1680/1 and MA in 1684. He was ordained at York in September 1681. From 1681-9 he was master of Snaith School, and vicar of Market Weighton from 1689-95, and Vicar of Sheffield from 1695-1713. He held the Prebendry of Bilton at York Minster from 1703 and was rector of Kirkby Overblow from 1613 until his death in April 1729. He had a son, Joseph, born in 1714. Published two of his sermons during his life: "A Sermon against bribery preach'd July 8, 1695 in York" (1695); "A Sermon against False Weights and Balances preach'd at Sheffield, January 10th 1696/7" (1697).
