Other NoteJohn Shawe was born on 22 June 1608 at Sykehouse in the parish of Bradfield, Yorkshire. On 24 May 1623, he was admitted pensioner at Christ's College, Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1626/7 and proceeding M.A. in 1630. He was appointed lecturer at Brampton, Derbyshire, in 1630, a post he held for three years. During the English Civil Wars, he served as chaplain to the parliamentary commissioners. After a series of appointments, he became lecturer at Holy Trinity, Hull, in 1645; he was ejected from this post and all other preferments in 1662. Shawe died on 19 April 1672, and was buried at Rotherham.
