Other NoteRobert Devereux was born on 11 January 1591 at Walsingham House, Hart Street, London, the son of Robert Devereux, Second Earl of Essex. He was baptised on 22 January 1591 by Lancelot Andrewes. In 1603, he became the Third Earl of Essex. He was created M.A. (Merton College, Oxford) on 30 August 1605. He is remembered today as the captain-general of the parliamentary forces against King Charles I, and for being accorded the greatest state funeral of any non-royal personage for decades, on 22 October 1646.
