Other NoteRowe was born ca. 1626 at Crediton, Devon to John Rowe (1588-1660), minister. He matriculated from New Inn Hall, Oxford, in 1642 but left the city when it was garrisoned by Royalist forces. Thereafter he was admitted to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1644 and graduated BA in 1646. He returned to Oxford after the war and proceeded MA in 1648. He became fellow of Corpus Christi College in 1649. Rowe was lecturer at Whitney, Oxfordshire in 1652. While there, he published Tragi-comoedia, being a brief relation of the strange and wonderful hand of God, discovered at Witny (1653), a compilation of three sermons calling for repentance after a floor collapsed during a performance of A most Pleasant Comedy of Mucedorus, killing six people. In 1654, he vacated his fellowship and was appointed lecturer at Tiverton, Devon. While there, he married a woman named Anne with whom he had three children. In 1655, he was preacher at Westminster Abbey and also led an Independent congregation there. He opposed the Restoration of Charles II and was promptly ejected from Westminster Abbey in 1660, but he continued to lead the Independent congregation, first relocated to Batholmew's Close and then to Holborn. Rowe died on 12 October 1677.
