Other NoteHoldsworth was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and attended St. John's College, Cambridge, where he was admitted in 1607, granted a BA in 1610, and elected fellow in 1613. In 1617 he was ordained and received an MA from Oxford, where he was appointed a university preacher in 1620. From 1624 on he was rector at St. Peter-le-Poer, London, while continuing his teaching at St. John's and later at Emmanuel College, where he became master in 1637. After 1629 he also became professor of divinity at Gresham College.
