Other NoteBorn at Kirkthorpe, Yorkshire, and baptized on 27 December 1602. Son of Francis Oley (d. 1643?), clergyman, and Mary Watterhouse. Educated at Wakefield Grammar School, Yorkshire, from 1607. Admitted to Clare College in 1617 (BA 1621; MA 1625). Fellow at Clare College (1623, ejected 1644, restored 1660-1663). Taxor for Cambridge University (1634-5). Senior Proctor (1635-6). Appointed to the college vicarage of Great Gransden, Huntingdonshire, in 1633, which he held for the rest of his life, though he was ejected from 1644-60. Faced fines as a royalist. Moved around during the late 1640s and 1650s, spending time in Oxford and various locations in Yorkshire, at times preaching to royalist forces. Prebendary of Worcester (1660-86). Archdeacon of Ely (1679-1681). Edited the collected works of Thomas Jackson. Died at Great Gransden, 20 February 1686.
